Free music supported by ads threatens iTunes
SpiralFrog, “A Digital Entertainment Destinationâ€, is where Universal Music is releasing its entire catalog for free download. The catch is that the site will be supported by advertising.
The idea is already being compared to iTunes and it shows that the music business is really feeling the heat of the new digital reality.
Before you go rushing to the site you should know that the service is supposed to launch this fall. And you should also know that these people will not be giving the music as MP3’s to do whatever you like with them.
According to TechCrunch, the music will be protected by a Digital Rights Management (DRM) scheme and it will come in the Windos Media Format.
iPod users will be not be able to put these files on their players.
TechCrunch are not too impressed.
