what does the broken pencil mean? Is it equivalent to a “broken arrow” military term?

  • http://moeys.net Moey

Amre, I think Joe was inspired by a great new agency in Kuwait named Pencil :)

  • Just Me

Hi Moey. Here we meet again. You are still making the same comments as on ads2blog, so here’s the same answer. I think you should learn how an agency works before you make such irrelevant comments. Most of my friends working in the agencies cannot write Arabic copy. Reasons why: they are either Lebanese who think in English, or Asian expats who need someone to translate their English copy. So in both cases, the Arabic copywriter needs to be bilingual, otherwise, he would need a translator. On the other hand Moey, did it occur to you that advertising briefs are written in English???!!! I think that writing this ad in English is rather a smart move, and not an oversight. BTW, the broken pen is an analogy for the part time job.

Joe, Is is the same answer again!

  • just me

Moey you’re starting to get me on my nerves and stop calling me JOE !!!! unless u want me to call u kre8tive or whatever…Mark perhaps?

Just Me…don’t agree with your justification why Arabic copywriter ad is in English, but I guess we are each entitled to our opinions. Regarding the broken pencil, is that a “generic visualization” for a part time job or something you guys did?

  • kre8tive

No Just Me, don’t call him KRE8TIVE, coz, that doesn’t fit right. Are you JOE? Really? (Kidding) lol

  • Gibbo

    hi guys.

The pencil is broken in half. A part-timer has a half work load. So they dont ‘need a full pencil’, only a half one.

surprised me that the ad was in english too. i hope i havent missed out on english writer jobs cos they were in arabic…

  • http://moeys.net Moey

    LOL, thanks gibbo.

JUST ME, Mark is not an anonymous person neither I. so until you reveal your real identity i’ll call you JOE :P

  • Joe

Moey. Stp harasg jst me. I rarly hv anythg to say, bt when I do i use my own id. I hv nthg to hide. Cheers!

  • khansa’a M. AbuNaji

good idea .. but why in English?

  • Joe

We simply don’t want an Arabic Copywriter who doesn’t understand English. There is a difference between journalistic copy and advertising copy. Writing the ad in Arabic would have attracted the wrong audience. We already have a problem in attracting the right talents to work advertising. For instance, every time we try to recruit Account Managers, we get hundreds of Accountants’ applications in return. As far as this ad is concerned, we already got the feedback we want and hired the guy. Hope this answers your question.
