The International Indian Film Academy Awards weekend has been concluded in Dubai (from 14 to 17 June, 2006) and seems to have been a success. The Gulf News has extensive coverage of the event or those interested.
The Awards ceremony travels across the world, with Dubai being the 6th city to host it.
The main aim behind hosting the event in Dubai is to encourage India’s movie and entertainment industries- commonly referred to as ‘Bollywood’- to investment in the Dubai Studio City.
It’s another example of the persistence that the government of Dubai shows to sell an idea regionally and worldwide.
And here are some interesting facts!
The Studio City provides the same benefits that companies in the other entities of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone enjoy, like 100 % tax exemption for 50 years, 100 % ownership of their business, 100% repatriation of capital and profits and no currency restrictions, serviced offices, land on lease, a one-stop-shop of support service and simplified licensing and incorporation.
Currently, there are more than 50 broadcasters operating over one hundred channels in Dubai Media City. To expand these broadcasters’ operations and to attract others, the Dubai Studio City will provide a total area of 22 million square feet to be built within the Dubailand complex.
Yes, it’s another big idea in Dubai.
Anyone else in the region taking notice? Or planning to compete?
