the crescent is a cliche’ with all its use, im sure there are other icons/symbols that show islam.. or even ramadhan..

I think the crescent is the easy way out for all of us in agencies. It’s the first thing we think of when we get that Ramadan brief “how can I bring in the crescent” onto my ad and make it creative, I totally agree with ShakeMo next year every brief should have written in the mandatories…DONT USE THE CRESCENT… challenge the creative minds a little.

Next Ramadan, Don’t use Crescent—- Use your head:-)

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

Remember Kre8iffff the examples you sent me by e-mail which i posted in http://www.bloganubis.com under the post BLUE MOON 1? ;)

  • Vegas

what about a crescent tax during Ramadan and the money goes to a charity?

  • http://www.adsinjordan.com amre husseini – AKA BITEME

oh look mom, another ramadan ad with a crescent:)

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

    WOW…someone is mimicking me….
Comment (5) obviously is not mine.
It’s that cross-eyed sheep again trying to impersonate the Lion King ;)
But the administrator already knows that and that is why the administrator will delete it….right administrator.

    NB. Vegas idea could work.

  • shakemo

Im with Vegas, a tax or fine on crescent abuse.

Maybe Dubai Lynx organisers should create a category for Ramadan ads that dont use a crescent?

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

shakemo and Vegas are on to something….what if the IAA Kuwait chapter organizes this very special award which would be open to everyone (not limited to Kuwait only). This way we can explore Ramadan through a process of lateral thinking. Feedback please as we could do it ASAP if the idea is appealing.

  • kre8tive

    Count me in.

  • shakemo

It should be done..something needs to happen to try to raise the standards of these ads.

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

Ok. Now let’s get down to business. Can each one of you and your friends and the blogs spread the word and see if there are others who share our point of view? If so then I promise that it will be done, but we have to act fast as this need to be handled while the topic is hot. E-mail me Jpg or PDF of your files and your suggestions or thoughts. louai@paragonmc.com

I am pleased AdBlogArabia is the ‘platform’ were my fellow professionals have come together to launch this idea.

Apparently, out of the harsh critique, comes a worthy initiative!

AdBlogArabia & mediaME are at your service as a media sponsor/supporter. mediaME’s database of over 4,000 advertising and media professionals may help.

    Happy Eid.

  • ansaihi

wow Vegas, thanks for the good idea!
who has a way to implement it?

(and 3aib 3la whoever imposted Louai… we are all allowed to express our difference, politely -if we are not CS).

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

Gentlemen thank you for the support you have shown towards Vegas idea. ansaihi we can implement this idea from Kuwait through the IAA with online participation from anywhere in the world; however it takes two to tango and I have not received a single e-mail with work or suggestions till this moment!!! Perhaps most of us used the crescent in our ads after all :) but that is not the point. The point is that I am still backing up the idea even if we do it for art sake. There will be no entry fee…the ad or artwork could be unpublished work…to get more exposure to great ideas that got shot dead by the client. We can then make a small exhibition (like we did for ACT) and post everything online with Adblogarabia and mediame. But to do all of the above I need to hear your suggestions and opinions and fast as time is of the essence I also need some volunteers.

Admin could you please create a section dedicated for Louai Alasfahani and whoever feels like arguing with this guy can do so at that area.

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

See Zeid why most professionals refrain from commenting on your blog…it’s due to idiotic comments and attacks by anonymous leaches.
On a more pleasant note…the European Film Week will commence under the sponsorship of the IAA Kuwait Chapter :) 26 – 30 of October and with partnership with Kuwait National Cinema. I will send you more details in the form of a press release after the press conference which will be held on the 19th of October, 2008.

  • http://theadrenalinefix.com Adrenaline

I can’t belive this guy…no one likes him, his work or his comments and personaly i don’t like his Bee Gees hair style and his Fatouta style suit…..why doesn’t he stick to his blog and if we decide to argu with him will pay him a visit there.

  • kre8tive

LOL@Adrenaline. On a serious note, Louai what’s up next? Could you be more elaborate on your plans for our fellow creatives hovering around? Thanks.

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

on a serious note Edward De Bono is coming to Kuwait (400KD per person) im trying to get them to reduce the price as this is not an IAA orginized event.

    the European Film Week.

    no basketball.

    no double dutch.

no Ramadan ads award with or without the crecent as NO one sent in anything.

bringing in Idea Management (Ralph Langost) author of “How to catch the big idea” for a two day workshop.

No one came up with any suggestions :) just complaints.

  • kre8tive

Oh come on……. somebody should do something?!

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

    why?

  • restless

    same sh*t.. different day ….

  • http://mediame.com Zeid Nasser (Admin)

    ‘Most professionals refrain……”

Sorry, but we have the highest number of comments for a regional blog.

As for people ‘refraining’, well it’s up to them …. at least they are visiting and reading then deciding to refrain :)

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

:) you probably DO “have the highest number of comments for a regional blog” BUT what about the “Most professionals” part ;) that was and advice not an attack.
if you moderate personal attacks which have nothing to do with the posted artwork you would most likely have more (quality) comments and less (personal abuse) comments…just a thought dont get worked up about it.
