come on !!! whats so fu**ing wow in this!!! Sony started this kind of execution then lipton did something similar and so on and on and on ….. so come on ppl think of something new ramdan is not only about El-Helal.. dahhhhh

  • http://www.adsinjordan.com amre husseini – AKA BITE ME

    Hey look a lipton ad…

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

What is Ramadan really about then?
I mean what iconography is associated with this more than 1,400 + year old event?
Isn’t the sighting of the crescent moon the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan?
Isn’t that what is mentioned in the holy Quran?
Isn’t the crescent moon a prominent symbol associated with Islam?
Isn’t the crescent moon on top of every mosque?
Anyone heard of the Red Crescent!!! Any one seen the Turkish flag!!! The Algerian flag!!! The Pakistani flag!!! Etc. etc. etc.
So I repeat the question…What is Ramadan really about from a visual point of view?

  • restless

yes i agree with you that the crescent indicates to Islam + the holy month of ramdan , but this is not my propblm,,, ,my problem is the execution it self (the idea of making the wire looks like crescent) this technique has been done a million time by big client,,,
BTW it would be nice if you leave the crescent alone next year and think of something else,,, there are many things connected with ramdan you can play around !!! walw

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

ok what do you suggest (other than the crescent)? im open for suggestions and I would love to hear your personal opinion on this topic. walaw.

  • shakemo

I agree totally with restless, next year why dont you bend your headphone cords into the shape of a date!

  • Quick comment

    …or a camel

  • http://moeys.net Moey

It is fine. I like it.

  • What The Maaan

the crescent is a cliche’ with all its use, im sure there are other icons/symbols that show islam.. or even ramadhan.. and yes this type of execution fails due its overuse.. very sad to hear those words to come from a senior person .. kuwait is going no where in advertising.. multi-national agencies need to step up cause local agencies fail

  • http://www.adsinjordan.com amre husseini – AKA BITEME

The crescent is a generic symbol representing the spirit of Ramadan. I cant remember who is the telecom operator I think it is MOBILY that did the ad this year about “giving” where the people on the street are breaking the biscuits, dates etc in half and extending them to a total stranger on the street…They didn’t use the crescent and they NAILED what Ramadan means…

I think the crescent is the easy way out for all of us in agencies. It’s the first thing we think of when we get that Ramadan brief “how can I bring in the crescent” onto my ad and make it creative, I totally agree with ShakeMo next year every brief should have written in the mandatories…DONT USE THE CRESCENT… challenge the creative minds a little.

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

how do you express that in a print ad?

  • kre8tive

The secret is get some insights, Louai… Think harder, that’s the key.. you can easily get away with a freakin crescent, like how you criticise others for being so CLICHÉ, so is your ad. Next Ramadan, Don’t use Crescent—- Use your head:-)

  • http://www.bloganubis.com Louai Alasfahani

so what is your insight on Ramadan? have you done any ads this Ramadan? privious Ramadan? any Ramadan? what have you used instead of a Crescent? …you didnt use a Crescent did you?!!! well it is clear that i cant count on you for any ;)

  • kre8tive

If i am gonna tell you, then I just have to replace you in your post! Heheheh :-)

  • ansaihi

Hello! it’s been a bit long time I didn’t visit the blog, but today I found that I didn’t miss a lot.

Well, first: I like the ad. It’s clean.
Second: I would use either the moon or the greeting calligraphy, not both.
Third: I’m sick and tired of seeing the crescent on every page of the newspaper during Ramadan!

I agree with Restless on#8 before he explains what he means. And agree with Louai on the crescent being the iconic symbol for Ramadan. But few years ago people were using the fanous, all of them. and I don’t know before that, cause I was in morocco. There the people know it’s Ramadan without seeing the ad, and they can read “ramadan kareem” in the copy line, but for the ad itself: they need to see a different page than the previous one. I’m sure in the gulf, thetarget audience are no different, but it’s just a trend.

(btw: few ideaas could be found around Dou3a2, prayers, visits, gift-giving…. people do a lot of stuff in ramadan, don’t we?)

it is always nice to see that our posts are the ones with the most interaction :) Paragon 22 so far. most of the others are 0 – 4 comments :) )))))))

  • ansaihi

Well, Louai, you have to judge that according to the global evaluation of the content. Contextually. ;)
I mean it could be good, could be bad thing.
(in general I like most of paragon contributions).
