MySpace… MyCoke !?

My Coke

As the popularity of social networking sites such as MySpace.com increases, marketers are creating their own social networking sites.

Brands such as Chevrolet, Coca-Cola and Nike have created marketing campaigns inspired by the MySpace.com site.

Coca-Cola’s has created a ‘literal namesake’ by launching MyCoke.com. So far, it’s a success, with Coca Cola claiming that the site has attracted eight million visitors per month.

However, the branding-dangers of a free-for-all space have been experienced by Chervolet, whose site witnessed a backlash with some visitors creating ads that criticize the brand.

Coke guards its site against such dangers by monitoring and filtering posts for ‘strong language’.

So, does that really make it Your Coke, or Their Coke?

Here’s Coke’s venture into social networking.

Well I guess this can play major role in the continues increase in online advertising spends in the world, I believe if a brand managed to create retention on its website it will give that brand huge branding opportunities and a database of loyal customers that can be easily exposed to targeted marketing and promotional campaigns for that brand with very low prices in comparison with the offline media.

By the way nice website, good luck.

    Thanks Samer for your comment.

Branded Online Communities are the perfect tool to interact with clients, and the concept has taken off worldwide but has only been used on a few occassions in the Middle East, primarily by Pepsi, M&Ms and Snickers.
