    This ad, juss wont sell
It aint not clear so well
It makes me feel like well,
    Fishes are, about to troll

Admin, why is this blog called adblogarabia again? Please have a look at the credit of this print, not one Arab on there.

Guys, there must be some creative Arabs they can hire who know something about Middle Eastern culture.
Do you think any local Arabs in Dubai will understand this? This is supposed to be an advertisement for a restaurant not a friggin arcade game. This does NOT want to make me go eat sushi.
Stop being so selfish and think of your clients.

  • kre8tive

Isvel: You have quite some balls for that claim. Best Art Director in the world, eh? Start with your site, a loader? You made me laugh. Probably change your claim into ‘The Stupidest Art Director in the World’ . that’ll work.

  • eh

Now it has to be adblock arabia ads.. WTF of these ads????????

  • restless

    nice art.. but then what?

from my side i don’t believe in the Non-Arab Creative directors who they are working in this region, simply because they don’t know the culture or even understand it so how come they will create proper communication materials!! ,, at the end “Ahlo mekkah adra beshi3abeha” ,!!.
i still believe that the main reason behind hiring Non-Arab Creative directors especially in the GCC regional is only to show-off by using them as an image in front of their clients.. from my side i worked with 2 English creative directors and they were disasters :) ,,

  • quick comment

restless, i dont see any problems with hiring non Arab creatives but the big problem is that the english or non Arab creatives that they hire are second and sometimes thrid rate, washed out creatives who couldnt get jobs in their own countries.
If these big Lebanese and Arab ad agencies want to hire non Arab creatives atleast invest in some good ones.

The only non Arab creatives that i respect are the CDs in Ogilvy dubai and tonic, Dubai. One is German and i believe the other is British because they actually use the Gulf culture to their advantage. sorry forgot their names.

  • restless

@quick comment, i disagree with you here, understanding the culture and the business in the region is a must to create proper communication materials, thats why i still DONT believe in the Non-Arab creative directors especially the english ,,, maybe it is good to hire Non-Arab art directors or visualizers ,, but for sure not creative directors

    thanks

  • M Jacob

There are several good Arab creative directors in the Middle East. Where in the Middle East is another matter. There are even some very good creatives of Arab origin in the Americas, Australasia and Europe.

restless, seeing how things are goin’ in the agency i work for. I agree.

non arabs should not be CDs

  • Quick comment

But also lets face it if you advertise in Dubai you dont exactly have to be very sensitive towards the Gulf culture because local Arabs only make up 10% of the whole place. Thats a tiny target audience.
The rest are actually Arab expats, Indians, Pakistanis, Europeans, South Africans..

I think its a mistake to hire non Arab creative directors in countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Syria, Jordan where the expat community is very low.
Its like hiring an Arab creative straight out of Syria and putting him in Manchester or something.

  • restless

not sure about Dubai,,, didn’t have the chance to work there ..

It’s a shame that many agencies in the ME have creative directors that know nothing about the region or it’s culture, and if they think by living in the region for some time they’ll get to know it they’re wrong. it’s a very complex combination of subcultures that only people who speak it’s language and were exposed to it’s culture at early ages might understand, agree with quick comment Dubai is different in this case.

On the contrary in Lebanon and Egypt most creative directors are local, with a level of creativity and originality that is ahead of most ME, for example humorous ads from Egypt where many Arab people in ME will find them funny while non-Arabs probably won’t understand them.

I think agencies should hire non-local creative directors ONLY if they speak Arabic and have lived in the specific country they’re hired in for enough time to understand the culture, and are very talented of course.

  • quick comment

The Europeans (British) came to Dubai when all these Bedouins were running around the desert living quite happily and they helped them extract the oil, that gave them the green light to shaft the Arabs for generations to come and the Bedouins instantly thought that Europeans are better and smarter then anyone else, including themselves.
All the trashy Europeans who moved to Dubai were treated like kings because of the colour of their skin, a pub landlord suddenly became a food & beverage manager at a 5 star hotel, a bricklayer is now a construction manager and a washed out art director became a creative director at an ad agency.
And when the shit hits the fan? ie: financial crisis or perhaps a potential war in Iran? All those trashy Europeans will be back to their own country, doing what they did before, running a pub, bricklayers or washed out artdirectors.
