bad ad. bad idea.. got nothing to do with wataniya products…
however i like the direction and execution except ofcorse for the song, i think the lyrics is just too long and does make u feel dizzy specially that a khaleeji man is singing it in a gay way!

plus, ummil khair looked lebanese to me or european and not kuwaiti… also the last phrase showing: asakum min uwwadah.. that word is usually said to celebrate eid not ramadan. grrrr…

    F*&K.!!
zeid close ur blog in ramadan. i dun wanna hurt feelings during the month…

loved it, loved the song, didnt get one word but found very catchy.. **repeat

Moe Fara :-) Not all ads are there to show products – there are messages sent through ads everyday and in this case, its Ramadan Greeting, but people are just used to have some sort of hidden or clear message about products and services. Look at it in a different way, that Ramadan is time to “connect” with your loved ones and gather all in the same time to have futoor :-)

Why is it in our mentality that EACH ad must show services or product?

    Check this ad for Zain

I loved it, yet its not advertising any product or service!

Marketing/Advertising is a very nice field and you have to be open minded to new ideas ;-)

By the way.. 3asakum min 3uwadda means Inshalla next year you will be here for it which can apply for Ramadan AND Eid and not only Eid ;-)

    lol rhea

    Hey Ansam
With all due respect and love here’s how i see it,
First of all, the ad could’ve handle showing some people using their phones and mobiles or even internet to symbolize watania’s involvement in ppls life during the month. Don’t tell me it cudnt.
unfortunately it ended up to be another vimto or almarai ad..
Second thing, let’s look at what big telecom companies are doing nowadays. well, they’re trying to SELL their products, like the recent STC restaurant commercial and the ittihad ittisalat Showbiz stars commercial and also Mobily Raqi commercial, they all, again, trying to SELLLLLLL
Now, goin to ur argument, about zain, u said zain doesnt show products well, since when zain is selling anything?? .. their ads are always the dumbest and less selling ads, c’mon the biggest thing they try to sell is always some hindi song or some s**ty islamic chanting!!
Now this leads me to ask, why do u think watania has to follow that root and consider zain their idols??? zain isn’t selling, even in the stock markets, their profits and winnings are always the shortest in comparison with other telecom companies..
    so again why following zain?????????????
and about the 3asakum min 3uwwadah thing, well gimme a break.. Ramadan has its own greeting dictionary, same goes with 3eed and here the term we’re discussing is used mainly and primarily for 3eed not Ramadan… so spare the “brain washing” .. if ur not convinced google it ya albi.

  • http://ansam518.wordpress.com/ Ansam

I am not in a state of mind to argue with you, specially when you call Islamic Chanting s**ty and with your way of talking “ya albi” – I am not here to fight with you, I am here to have a civil discussion! God!

Who said Wataniya is following Zain! Or Zain is not selling! I dont know where you’re getting your ideas from.

I lived in the States, and been to Europe so many times and seen ads like these where they dont have to advertise actual services and products, but I guess the Middle East is not ready for that yet lazim yeshofoon shay wila ma yefhimoon!

O ana Kuwaiteya o asma3 3asakom min 3wada in Ramadan and in Eid so we dont have to agree

    3adi “etafaq al 3arab 3ala an la yattafiqo” te3awadna :-)

hun, sounds like u din get a word of what i said
1- By saying why Watania should follow Zain, I was discussing your argument. We all know Wataniya is Wataniya and Zain is Zain and both are two different companies at the end of the day.
2- By saying Zain is not selling, I meant they don’t do promotions that often. I din mean they are not selling anything at all!!
3- By saying s**ty Islamic chanting it’s because I have this general hate towards religious icons, specially ones that are forced down our throats, like Rashid Miphasasi, Pope Benedikitkat… Jerry Springer, Mahatma Gumpi u name them.

Anyways, I think you still do not see the big picture yet… all im trying to say thru all my comments issssssssss: religious greetings coming from multi-billion dollar corporations are always cheezy. actually VERY cheezy..

have a nice day. Ramadan Kareem :)

  • bu3teeg

Moe fara: U can surely say “3asakom men 3awwadah” in Ramadhan, no question about that.

  • eh

let’s pass this ad, it’s a normal ad and there is nothing special about it.

  • http://www.bored.com moe fara

its not a can-or-can’t matter. it’s when do people usually, mostly, likely say it. so please khalas, enough talking about this.

    regards
moe fara – better known in urban communities as bujasim :D

  • http://ansam518.wordpress.com/ Ansam

bu3teeg Thank You! Thats why its okay to say “3asakom to3odoona kel sina wetsoomoonah” ;-) O 3asaak min 3awada :-)

  • http://www.bored.com moe fara

although i can, i dun wanna kill the moment for you.

  • Ahmad

this ad is the worst, Zain and Viva have done better ads.

  • http://www.bored.com moe fara

ahmed, watch out. 3amma ansam will be the crap outta u now haha

  • http://www.bored.com moe fara

    beat* :D

  • Ahmad

@moe fara: She is the one who did this crap :)

  • http://www.bored.com moe fara

well ahmed, look at this question of hers:
“Why is it in our mentality that EACH ad must show services or product?”..

she obviously has a new definition for ad·ver·tis·ing…

however ahmed, i dun blame her i dun blame rookies if shes behind this s*&t.. i actually blame the “creative masters” ,sorry i mean “khareative basters” in bbdo kuwait for letting out this crap.

  • Ahmad

@moe fara: this agency is crap and they always give excuses.

BTW they don’t hire creative people they only hire basters :)

  • http://www.bored.com moe fara

man, even in jeddah. it stinks :D

  • Ahmad

    :D
