‘Water Campaign’ by du, making waves in the UAE

If you live in the UAE, there’s no escaping the massive du (the 2nd mobile operator) campaign now running through multiple media outlets. It’s the work of Leo Burnett -Dubai.

For the most part, it has been well received, but you may be wondering what it’s all about; and what’s the idea of that water effect rippling throughout?

Apparently, the campaign focuses on water as an analogy to express the telecom’s brand attributes.

A spokesperson for du’s brand campaign says that, “Water brings people together, it comes from inside us, it allows us to travel far, and it expresses itself with power or as a whisper. And of course, it is all around us in our daily life. This is how we see communication and we want to take it further.”

What do you think? Check out the du website

the du spokesperson seems to have it all wrong. water brings people together? and the talk of coming from inside us is very rude to say the least.

it is more about bringing life to life as the heading suggests. water is where life originated. and it is all the more relevant in a desert where rain is eagerly anticipited. and water cleans and purifies. and is fluid, moving, transparent…

so many opportunities are missed out,

Well I am not in marketing or advertising but I am interested in mobile converage, capacity and transparency of bills. This ad does not tell me how they are going to do any better job than the incumbent operator. It is abstract and meaningless when applied to real life.
