The image is from google images:

    http://wamnation.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/palette.jpg

and the retouching is so obvious and clear that you can see the “cloning effect” on the palette itself…
    Why Paragon?

    I like the idea.
    the execution is good.
the client is happy (so it is real work).
we got a silver award for it in the Summit Creativity Awards.

Although such work may not rock your world if you were working in New York (for example); but in Kuwait it really stretched the envelope. look at all the ads coming out of Kuwait, exclude the copycat and the ghost ads then you will see the true level of the industry in Kuwait and when comparing it with this idea you will have an informed opinion.

    crap

Lets say that the idea of “not mixing that facts” is good

but the execution is not ok at all why the color palate? they do not usually use it to write or print any newspaper :) ,, come on!! there are a million way to visualize this idea properly..

BTW why not to raise the standers in Kuwait by producing world class ads something to stand out and raise the bar ?

Are you still defending the ad? What about the image you got from a random blog by searching on google? Did your client send it to you and that’s why you’re so happy?

a visual showing olive oil and water could been a nice idea..’we don’t mix facts”

  • 7. restless  |  April 16th, 2009 at 3:52 pm

i prefer not to explain the visual ,, the line should complement the visual not to portray it ,, no need for the repetition ,,

i think the visual should be something different,, like visualizing what will happen if we mix the facts, ? or we look into the details so the facts wont get mixed,, there are many ideas that can work perfectly

God i dont know why whenever paragon post something nobody write a positive comment!

  • 9. Louai Alasfahani  |  April 16th, 2009 at 5:24 pm

Ralph. the visual of oil and water is a nice idea but it has been used in Kuwait by P&A for KFH (Kuwait Finance House).

Restless. point taken however this is a step in the right direction If you worked in Kuwait you would know that the client was brave to approve this ad.

  • 11. Louai Alasfahani  |  April 16th, 2009 at 5:30 pm

peter. every time there is a Paragon ad regardless if i personally created it or not it always gets hammered because the copycats that I have busted and continue to bust need to blow some steam otherwise they would burst and explode.

  • 12. Gilgamesh  |  April 16th, 2009 at 6:31 pm

    Louai,

I think you’re missing the point. You never busted me and I have no reason to have anything against you but objectively, this is not very good.

When you make as much noise as you do you have to be prepared to take some blows especially when you put up such work on a website : this is mediocre at best, the idea AND the art direction and the Kuwaiti market has nothing to do with that.

I have to say that I am very surprised to see someone like you busting so called copycats, which sometime are not even close to the “original”, when you work is full of clichés.

I was just checking your blog today and you couldn’t even justify properly this balloon thing that you published when someone accused you to have copied it too.

I was really on your side when you started exposing the frauds of this year’s Lynx because this had to be done, but today I am very confused to be honest. This sounds more and more like the witch hunt of a bitter man.

Did you really want justice because you care for good work and the industry or did you want revenge because you’re jealous of others?

Sorry Louai but in my personal opinion this isnt that good, I think Paragon has done stuff that’s much better. :-(

Revenge caused by Jealousy sounds better than Caring for the good of the Industry :)

Advertising is the most controversial of the elements and techniques of marketing communications as it is a unique blend of social science, art, technology, and craft. which is why advertising has successfully attracted artists, intellectuals, movie directors, politicians, poets, hard-headed businessmen…and controversy.

NB. You do not need to be a composer to enjoy a symphony.

    Well put…

  • 18. eh  |  April 20th, 2009 at 10:19 am

Louai: I dont think u r a good composer on photoshop after this execution. i didnt enjoy any of seeing this ad.

  • 19. Moey  |  May 5th, 2009 at 12:06 pm

Louai, the fact that the image was stolen/borrowed from the internet bothers me, the editing bothers me more…

I think the header needs more work too, and websites don’t have spaces usually.
