Regional Press Network, an outsourcing firm of Zawya, is looking for an Editor to join its Beirut team. The successful candidate has a keen interest in the region’s business and political affairs and developments. As an Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
•Formulating policy, planing, coordinating, and directing editorial activities and supervising journalists who assist in selecting and preparing material for publication in the Newswire.
•Coordinating with journalists and managing director on the selection and assignment of stories which will be gathered from the Arabic press from across the region.
•Coordinating with managing director on the training of staff journalists in regards to style and overall editorial competency
•Writing or assigning staff members or freelance writers to write articles, reports, editorials, reviews, and other material. Reading and evaluating material submitted for publication.
•Editing special monthly sector reports produced by the company’s research team, including short business overviews of regional companies for the Corporate Monitor product.
•Assisting in formulating editorial policy and directs editorial team in regards to production and meeting deadlines.
•Occasionally writing articles on certain topics including leading editorials in coordination with managing director.
•Determining placement of stories based on relative significance.
•Writing or revising headlines. Edit copying. Performing related editorial duties as required.
•Representing the newswire at professional and community functions.
Personal qualities / Skills Needed:
Knowledgeable about and able to write financial stories in English / Arabic effectively
Ability to source and analyse information
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Impeccable command of English and Arabic
Keen interest in the regions’ business and political affairs
Self motivated and keen to continuously improve and develop professionally
Able to work under pressure and result orientated
Computer literate (use of MS Office)
Languages: English & Arabic (French is an advantage).
