Leading Brands Publishing, a Dubai-based custom publishing house, in association with pharmaceutical giant Merck Serono Middle East, announced the launch of Pulse iPad edition, the world's first fully interactive cardiology magazine for the Apple iPad.

Available through the MAGapp e-reader on iTunes, Pulse iPad engages with readers through a number of interactive experiences such as video, audio, Internet and social media.

Pulse, now in its fifth issue, with a readership of over 5,000 healthcare professionals, provides the latest information and research in cardiovascular therapeutics and discusses the current challenges facing cardiologists across the Middle East. Content is informative and reliable, being provided by reputable specialists and key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the field.

"Pulse iPad edition gives cardiologists the chance to have a fully interactive and engaging reading experience," said Dream Samir, Managing Director, Merck Serono, Middle East. "Using the MAGapp e-reader, Pulse now comes packed with online features, downloads, Twitter connections and videos, relating to cardiovascular issues both here in the Middle East and across the world. Pages literally come alive through visually entertaining new media. We are very excited to be the first to launch this type of iPad cardio magazine and are looking forwarding to hearing our reader's thoughts and opinions on this new edition format."

According to Manhattan Research, 75% of U.S. physicians already own an Apple device, such as an iPhone or iPad. Mars Mlodzinski, company partner at Leading Brands Publishing, spoke of plans to survey iPad usage amongst physicians in the Middle East, "We can clearly see a strong trend of iPads becoming essential to healthcare professionals in the U.S. With the launch of Pulse iPad edition, Leading Brands will survey and track medical professionals across the region to see how quickly the trend is catching on in the Middle East. The feedback we have already received for Pulse iPad edition is extremely positive and there is a definite wow-factor with this new magazine format."

With Apple CEO, Tim Cook, reporting record sales of over 11 million iPads in the last quarter, an incredible 166% increase over the same quarter last year, and the fact that 80% of U.S. hospitals are now testing or piloting the iPad, there is a vast demand for apps for medical professionals. The most popular are Epocrates, a widely used mobile drug reference source, and Mobile MIM, an app that allows doctors to view and send MRI, PET and CT scans across a secure network allowing specialists to be consulted while away from the office. With all trends pointing towards the exponential growth of iPads in the medical industry, Pulse is leading the way with regards to quality interactive content on this platform, and is flying the flag for the Middle East.
