Television signal piracy in the Middle East has cost pay-tv providers an estimated amount of 500 million dollars. Illegal content distribution has been a significant problem in the region, with the problem being worst in Egypt and Lebanon.
Nick Thomas from Informa Telecoms & Media stated that legal infrastructures in the region lack clear piracy guidelines. "Tackling piracy is important. And the lack of clear legislation in some territories is a hindrance," It is estimated that around two million pay-tv subscribers are lost to signal piracy.
