Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PrJSC (Yahsat), a private joint stock company fully owned by Mubadala, has today announced that it has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DSEI Thales, a global technology leader for the Defence & Security markets.

The new agreement allows Yahsat to offer highly secure satellite communications to military forces and government agencies, through Yahsat's Y1A satellite resource, while Thales will provide its associated ground segment secure solutions.

The agreement also supports Yahsat's mandate to become one of the first commercial satellite communication services providers to military forces on the Ka band, the optimum communications band for critical and confidential government and military wideband communications.

Talking on the significance of the agreement, Rashed Al Ghafri, YahService General Manager, said: "The signing of this agreement with Thales is the first step in our long-term vision to provide comprehensive and advanced satellite communications solutions to government agencies through KA band satellite solutions.

"We are delighted to announce this milestone for Yahsat and Thales, which comes after both organisations showed great synergy to achieve our objectives. I am confident that this will be just the first of many successful partnerships together.' he concluded."

"We are very proud to announce this new partnership with Yahsat. By combining our strengths and know-how, we are anticipating governments' needs and enabling ourselves to provide them with turnkey solutions tailored to their stringent requirements" said Jean-Michel Lagarde, Thales SVP in charge of systems activities. "This partnership thus consolidates the position of Thales as a leading satcom industrial participant, able to provide reactive and reliable system solutions."
