Dubai Properties Group (DPG), a member of Dubai Holding, today announced its partnership with Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) to host a week-long 'Rhythm and Reels' screenings and concerts at The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR).

DIFF's activities at The Walk will commence on 12 December with a live broadcast of the opening ceremony and red carpet events from the Madinat Jumeirah. The direct feed from the venue will be capped with a free screening of DIFF 2010 opening film 'The King's Speech,' starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter.

The 'Rhythm and Reels' event  will  commence the following day (13 December) with the screening of 'When You're Strange: A Film About the Doors'  hailed as  an explosive documentary depicting the life of the Doors singer Jim Morrison and their rock-n-roll band, with a narrative by Johnny Depp.

An open-air theatre with a seating capacity of over 2,000 will be built for the extraordinary event, providing a unique film viewing experience at the beachfront promenade and offering guests a range of retail and restaurant  options.

Khalid Al Malik, Group CEO, Dubai Properties Group, said: "We are thrilled that The Walk has been chosen as a venue for DIFF's events and activities throughout the festival. Our partnership with DIFF has enhanced The Walk's position as a pioneering tourism destination in the region and a location of choice for high-profile international events.

"This remarkable event reflects the mutual vision of DPG and the Dubai International Film Festival as  advocates for cultural exchange in the region."

Introduced in 2007, the 'Rhythm and Reels' concept celebrates the mutually enriching relationship between film and music. In its fourth edition, it will feature 11 films including several that offer a commentary on the Arab social landscape.

Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman, DIFF, said: "This year, the Rhythm and Reels segment pays tribute to some of the world's legendary musicians, from John Lennon to the Arab world's Sabah. As a key DPG destination, The Walk has grown into one of the most popular entertainment and social venues in the UAE and is therefore an ideal platform for DIFF to bring the film festival closer to the community."

The seventh edition of the Dubai International Film Festival will be held from 12-19 December and feature a line-up of 157 films from 57 countries, including an outstanding array of contemporary Arab cinema and a robust competition segment.

The Walk at JBR is regarded one of the most distinctive and popular entertainment and shopping destinations in the UAE. The unique 1.7km outdoor shopping boulevard boasts 305 shops situated on both the plaza and ground levels. From its ideal location to its wide-ranging retail and dining options, The Walk at JBR offers a unique experience for every age and every choice.
