Beyond ambition, persistence and talent, it is the ability to make films that will appeal to a general audience and holds the key to success, according to Norman B. Schwartz, Instructor, New York Film Academy.

Schwartz was speaking at 'Inside the Entertainment Industry Showcase', a grassroots initiative that aims to invigorate the local film and entertainment community. It was hosted by Dubai Studio City, the region's leading destination for the film and broadcast industry and a member of TECOM Investments' Media Cluster.

The 'Showcase' saw top industry professionals sharing their journey and expertise with the audience. In addition to Schwartz, other guest speakers included UAE National film director Nawaf Al Janahi and stand-up comedian Nitin Mirani.

Over 100 entertainment industry enthusiasts and professionals attended the event held at the Courtyard, Dubai Studio City. It was organised in association with bareface, a UAE-based talent agency and supported by Miranda Davidson Studios, a leading UAE-based resource for educating and cultivating talent.

Schwartz said: "The great ancient oral tradition of Arabic storytelling can be transferred to the visual language of cinema to connect with an audience worldwide. Emirati filmmakers must strive to tell a story about their experiences, family, and their world. Good small stories, human stories, will somehow always find an audience."

Nawaf Al Janahi said: "The UAE film scene has been witnessing great growth since 2001. More and more films get produced every year, especially feature films. There is a vital need for professional acting coaches such as Miranda and her public showcases to shape and prepare good actors for the coming films. Her expertise also helps raise awareness in the public about the value of building a career in film business."

Budding actors performed short excerpts from popular movies, while the actors shared their success stories and insights on the local entertainment landscape at the 'Inside the Entertainment Industry Showcase'.

The event was held as part of Dubai Studio City's vision of supporting the indigenous film industry as a stepping stone to establishing Dubai as an international destination for the filming industry.
