Umniah sponsored the 8th Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference, which launched its activities on 6th and 7th June 2011, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya Bint El Hassan, President of El Hassan Science City and the Royal Scientific Society. The conference was attended by over 500 senior industry professionals representing over a 150 companies from 23 different countries within the ICT and media sectors.
The conference, in its 8th cycle, aimed to showcase the latest developments within the telecom and media sectors whilst shedding light on the new landscape that has redefined various aspects between both sectors as a result of telecom and media convergence.
As part of the conference's different activities, Umniah's CEO, Ihab Hinnawi participated in a panel on the development prospects of Long Term Evolution (LTE) for broadband in the Arab World, the importance of Web 2.0 technologies and applications, mobile content, the vital role of operators in developing the industry, and the major challenges that the industry is currently facing.
Moreover, Amjad Frouqa, Umniah's Director of Quality, Business Continuity and Information Security, held a presentation about the industry's latest technologies where he discussed the development of Cloud Computing technology as well the concerns and risks impeding its spread. Khalid Hudhud, Umniah's Director of Governmental and Regulatory Affairs, participated in a debate panel covering the various aspects related to costs imposed on the content industry. He highlighted the importance of bolstering broadband Internet penetration rates, and allowing customers to use it whichever way they choose. He further touched on the topic of Internet connection, where he explained that according to the concept of Net Neutrality all users must be allowed equal and unbiased Internet access.
Commenting on Umniah's sponsorship and participation, Ihab Hinnawi explained that it reflects the company's dedication to belonging to innovation and the future and is also in line with Umniah's efforts to contribute to the development of the telecom and mobile content industry by intensifying efforts to create a solid, competitive, and progressive industry that caters to the growing and ever changing needs of consumers. Hinnawi also spoke about the vital role that telecom companies play in promoting a culture of innovation in a manner that can be utilized in the ICT sector's products and services.
It is worth noting that Umniah has on a number of occasions participated in the Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference, organized by the Arab Advisors Group, which is a specialized research, analysis and consulting company throughout the MENA region, and is a member of the Arab Jordan Investment Bank Group.
