The Financial Times has reported that during the opening of the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of News Corp, has warned Middle Easters authorities to liberalise their media markets if they want to attract international media groups and further improve creativity in the Arab world. Mr. Murdoch added that Abu Dhabi could become the capital of creativity that is modern, global and fully Arab, stating that creativity was “the one economic resource that is truly inexhaustible”.
The keynote speech has also called for more transparent television advertising markets, effective measuring tools and more competition between media buyers and sellers, adding that authorities could change the region’s reliance on foreign media and entertainment content, which could help the region create 50 million jobs in the next decade.
