Ipsos, the official research partner of Al Jazeera Sports Channels, has conducted surveys to measure the viewership of the games during the football World Cup 2010 in the Middle East and North Africa. According to Ipsos, 148 million people were watching the final game between Netherlands and Spain from 14 countries in the Mena region, on Al Jazeera Sport Channels on the 11th of July 2010.
Mr. Elie Aoun, the Chief Operating Officer on Ipsos MediaCT in the MENA region, said, "Conducting such surveys for Al Jazeera Sport Channels has not only been challenging, but it has also been extremely exciting for Ipsos, specially for such a credible and professional TV sports channel in the Middle East."
Ipsos conducted the studies measuring the viewership of the games in 14 countries throughout the Middle East, namely: Iraq, Kuwait, Egypt, UAE, KSA, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Yemen, and Sudan. Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco & Libya were conducted with Sigma Conseil.
Conversely, Ipsos research declared that 110 million people were watching the game between Germany and Spain in the semi finals of the world Cup. Last but not least, the Ipsos research showed that 102 million people watched the match of Uruguay versus Netherland, in the other semi final.
Ipsos, the official research partner of Al Jazeera Sport Channels, measured the games during the football World Cup 2010 and now the partnership is extended to measure many of the leagues broadcasted on Al Jazeera channels, mainly the Champions league, the Spanish and Italian leagues. The collaboration between the two companies was found when Al Jazeera Sport Channels wanted to conduct 'Day After Recall' studies to observe the viewership of the World Cup 2010 matches and required a research associate that could provide data in an accurate and prompt method.
The methodology used is telephone interviews the day after the games, asking people about the games watched yesterday, this is why it is called "Day After recall".
