Al Jazeera Sport acquires Egyptian Premier League broadcasting rights

Qatar- based sports network Al Jazeera Sport has reportedly acquired the broadcasting rights to the Egyptian Premier League for US$2.6 million. This will make Al Jazeera Sport the first international TV network to broadcast Egyptian Premiere League games. "We have reached an agreement with Al Jazeera that will enable it to broadcast the Egyptian League this season. They will begin airing the competition's matches in the next round until the end," said Samir Zaher, chairman of the Egyptian Football Association.

The launch of the sports news channel will coincide with the 15th anniversary of Al Jazeera. The channel will feature a variety morning show and a daily talk show that will include in-depth discussions.

Update: FC Barcelona and Qatar Foundation sponsorship deal continues

It has been previously reported that the board of European champions FC Barcelona were in talks to vote on scrapping the club's $225m sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation following a five-and-a-half year shirt sponsorship deal in December, which relegated its UNICEF logo to the back of the shirt. The voting resulted in continuing the deal where 697 members voted in favor of keeping it, while only 76 voted for scrapping it and 36 abstained.
