YouTube adds 3D conversion capabilities

YouTube has added automatic 3D conversion for short-form videos uploaded in 1080p. The functionality follows a beta feature that allowed creators to convert YouTube videos into 3D with a click, which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of 3D videos that have been shared. Now, the beta has been rolled out to everyone. Users can simply select 3D viewing in the 'quality settings' section on the YouTube player.


3D channel 'High TV' now available in the UAE

Etisalat has added the 3D channel High TV to its IPTV service, eLife TV. The New York-based channel broadcasts a variety of content, including news and entertainment. "We are very pleased to add High TV 3D channel to the rich bouquet of content for our eLife TV viewers. As leaders in home entertainment, Etisalat was the first in the UAE and the region to bring 3D to our customers with the broadcast of 2010 FIFA World Cup. Today, we once again become the first to launch a 24/7, dedicated 3D entertainment and lifestyle channel," said Rashed Alabbar, vice president of home product marketing at Etisalat.

The latest Ericsson TV & Video Consumer Trend Report shows a direct rise in on-demand online video, with viewers watching online TV more than once per week. The study also cites that social media has impacted how viewers watch TV. More than two-fifths of respondents reported using social media on various devices such as smartphones and tablets while watching TV.
