Al Jazeera English announces launch on India’s Tata Sky

Al Jazeera English has announced its launch on India’s Tata Sky platform. This will enable the channel to reach an additional 9 million Indian households, taking its total reach across the country to over 25 million households. "We are delighted to be launching on Tata Sky, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new viewers in India to Al Jazeera English", said Al Anstey, Managing Director of Al Jazeera English.

Al Jazeera is launching a new iPhone app for its English news service, that will feature breaking news, opinion, features, as well as live streaming capabilities for 24 hour news broadcasts. The free app will also feature easy uploading tools that will allow citizen reporters to instantaneously submit and share content.

Al Jazeera English has been named news channel of the year by the Royal Television Society (RTS) at its awards ceremony in London. The channel was up against Sky News and BBC News. The Qatar- based channel received praise for its coverage of the Arab Awakening, Egypt’s Tahrir Square protests, and for being the first on the scene to report the death of former Libyan dictator, MuammarGaddafi.
