Amazon announces content licensing deals

Amazon.com has struck a digital content licensing deal with Discovery Communications. Under the terms of the agreement, Amazon will add series from Discovery's lineup to Amazon's subscription-based streaming video service. Subscribers to the Amazon Prime shipping service will be able to stream a considerable amount of Discovery's content, including content from the company’s 25-year programming library.


Apple has more online shoppers than Walmart.com

According to a study by ComScore, Apple got more traffic online last month than Walmart. According to the study, Apple is the only retailer (other than Amazon and eBay) in the top 15 most-visited websites in the U.S. in November. Apple gets almost as many web visitors as the New York Times, thanks in large part to Apple's music site iTunes. The digital-content store made up about 30% of Apple's unique visitors last month.


Amazon announces selling more Kindle books than 'physical' books this Christmas

Amazon's Kindle hit an important and startling milestone yesterday: On Christmas, the company sold more Kindle books than physical books. The Kindle Store now includes over 390,000 books. Kindle has also become the most gifted item in Amazon's history. The more Kindle books Amazon sells, the more leverage it will have over publishers when it tries to force them to cut wholesale prices.
