200 million Android devices activated worldwide

During the launch of Google's 'Google Music' service, it was announced that the company has activated 200 million Android devices worldwide. According to c|net, the figure given by Google has doubled since May. 

Meanwhile, other studies have revealed that Google is activating up to 550,000 devices every day, up from 400,000 in May and 500,000 in June. A recent study by Gartner revealed that more than half of the smartphones shipped worldwide in the third quarter are powered by Google's Android.


'Google Music' is launched

Google began selling digital music via 'Google Music' on Wednesday. The new Google service offers music streaming, a music store and social media features. The Google Music store, which has been incorporated into the Android app market, already has over 13 million songs available, thanks to deals with Universal Music, Sony and EMI.


Google Music to launch without Warner and Sony

Google held a press event for its anticipated music service 'Google Music' last week. Noticeably missing from the event were representatives for Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group. It has been confirmed that Google signed a licensing agreement with the Universal Music Group. However, deals with Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group are yet to be made.
