Google has announced its plans to make Google TV an international service in 2012. “We’re looking to roll out internationally through the course of 2012,” a Google spokesperson has said. The spokesperson offered no addidtinal detail on the launch date, and did not specify why the introduction to the international market has taken so long. “We don’t break out the reasons why, but we do want to make sure that users everywhere get the full experience, so we want to make sure we work towards that,” he said.

Google has announced an update for its Google TV YouTube app. The updated app, which is available via the Android Market, is designed to display the videos people are most interested in. The app includes new channel pages, featuring playlists and videos users can subscribe to. In addition, the application now includes a 'related videos' list and the option to see all the clips uploaded by individual users. The update will make it faster and easier to find content.

Al Jazeera English can now be accessed on the new Google TV and Google Chrome apps. The new Google TV app will feature headlines and updates from the Al Jazeera Twitter feed. In the future, the app will also include a live stream of Al Jazeera's coverage. Meanwhile, the new Chrome app features desktop notifications and offline content access, as well as the ability to watch the channel's live stream.

According to the head of Samsung's TV division, Samsung Electronics is in last-stage talks with Google to launch a television with Google TV software . Yoon Boo-keun said the company plans to unveil its Google TV by next year. He added that Samsung's Google TV would differ from its competitors' versions. Google TV currently comes built-in on certain Sony Corp. television models and on Logitech International set-top boxes. Google TV allows consumers to access online videos, websites, specialised apps, and video games on their televisions.


Rapid TV News reports that Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt, has confirmed the launch of Google TV in the United States before the end of 2010 and worldwide next year. The announcement comes on the heels of the launch of the new Apple TV, however, Google’s approach is diametrically different being network rather than device focused.

The launch of Google TV marks the first step in the collaboration between Intel and Google, a partnership which could have a much wider and profound impact. Google TV is currently being presented as an open platform that "adds the power of the web to the television viewing experience".
