A media company that was intending to sell advertising space in Dubai has been asked by the Dubai Municipality to remove its lamp post advertisements along Shaikh Zayed Road after receiving complaints from the public that they were offensive. The advertisements, that were intended to be part of a teaser campaign, included phrases in Arabic and English that read "I am yours", "Buy me", "Talk to me", "I am available".

According to Booz & Company, over-the-top video (OTTv) has the potential to reinvent television viewing in the Middle East. "Consumers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region demonstrate a particular appeal to digital video consumption, making OTTv offerings particularly attractive. Broadband subscribers in the region average 6.1 YouTube playbacks, compared to 4.9 worldwide," said Booz & Company consultants Hadi Raad and Mahmoud Makki in a statement to Gulf News.

The impact of Facebook’s offering of new free Skype-powered video calling services on its global social media network is still uncertain in the UAE, say telecom analysts.While separate stand-alone Skype software is still not legally licensed in the Emirates, the question remains whether Skype-powered video calling that is physically integrated into the Facebook website is viewed by authorities as a legal activity.
