Web TV on the rise in the Middle East

Although traditional stations still dominate the television braodcasting, about 10 regional Web television services have been launched as more viewers in the Arab world watch films and TV series online. "Web TV will completely revolutionize how video content is distributed and consumed," says Samer Abdin, the co-founder of Istikana. The number of regional web TV services is expected to increase, and change the television industry dramatically. "It's not that broadcasters are going to die, it's that they need to adapt," says Nick Grande, the managing director of ChannelSculptor, a television consultancy in Dubai.

Istikana partners with ART to provide Film content

Istikana.com, the Middle East and North Africa's primary Arabic Video streaming service, announced the signing of an agreement with ART (Arab Radio & Television) to provide the streaming service access to its comprehensive film library. This agreement will greatly expand the content offering of the site and will add a new genre of Films to its existing genres that have included thousands of hours of cartoon series, Arabic drama series, dubbed series, documentaries and religious programming.

Istikana.com aims to double amount of content in 2012

According to Samer Abdin, a co-founder of Istikana, the advertising-driven service is lining up content deals to increase the number of hours of programming Istikana has to offer. "In the bank, we have 4,000 [hours], and we aim to get that at least again this year," Abdin said. Istikana currently has deals in place with about 25 content suppliers, including Jordan's Arab Telemedia Group.
