Number of Facebook users in Jordan exceeds 2 million

According to CheckFacebook.com, the number of Facebook users in Jordan has exceeded two million. Figures have indicated that the number of Jordanians using the site reached 2.057 million on Saturday, up 1.9 million since last Thursday.

Jordan Media City moves Al Jazeera to another transponder following signal disruptions

According to Jordan Times, Jordan Media City (JMC) has moved Al Jazeera news channel to a different transponder after its signals were jammed as “it was targeted by the Libyan authorities”. The jamming has caused the loss of 13 signals, Al Jazeera being among them in a package of frequencies transmitted from the JMC, which also includes Jordan TV, Melody Aflam, Blue Nile, ART and others.

The Jordan Times has reported that in a panel discussion on the power of the Internet on the final day of the third annual conference for Arab Investigative Journalists, organized by Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism, keynote speaker Tim Sebastian said advanced communications have shifted power from the hands of "those who have always had it" to those "who have never had it". For that reason, he explained, "professionalism is now more vital than any other time".


Yahoo! Arabic services make great progress

The Jordan Times has reported that Yahoo! is now making a great progress in offering a wide range of its services in Arabic. The services include Yahoo! messenger, search engine, front page and Yahoo! mail. Yahoo! Middle East, which inaugurated its Amman office last week, will be combining the best of Yahoo! and the best of Maktoob. The office will be in charge of creating regional content, product localization and developing new products and services.
