UAE biggest Arab country in terms of ad spend, followed by KSA and Kuwait

According to the director of the Pan Arab Research Center (PARC) in Kuwait, Khaled Shahori, the first half of 2011 has recorded a total of $451 million in advertising spending, newspapers accounting for 54 per cent of the total ad spend, followed by TV with 34 per cent.

Kuwait radio station to broadcast talk show with media company

KUNA has reported that Kuwait radio station will soon broadcast a three-hour talk- show with a private media company. The radio station signed a joint programme for the first time with the private sector which will start broadcasting in October.

A report by KUNA reveals that the number of Facebook users in Kuwait exceeded 822,000 by the end of June. This number represents about 5% of the total number of Facebook users in Arab countries, which are a total 16.1 million users, and place Kuwait in third position in terms of social media population.

Wataniya Telecom to launch its own satellite channel for Ramadan

Kuwaiti telecoms firm Wataniya Telecom is planning to launch its own satellite channel, due to run during the holy month of Ramadan, starting on July 15. The planned channel is not aimed at commercial gains, Wataniya said, adding the channel will broadcast a religious programme, a competition show and several drama series eight hours a day without advertisements through Egypt's Nilesat.

twofour54 tadreeb, the region's premier media skills training academy, has successfully completed two training courses for Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Reporting Business News and Mobile Journalism. The Mobile Journalism course was carried out in conjunction with the Thomson Reuters Foundation. Journalists were trained in identifying opportunities to create mobile multimedia journalism.
