According to socialbakers.com, a Web analytics firm, there are currently 1,419,060 Facebook users in Lebanon. “Our social networking statistics show that Facebook penetration in Lebanon is 34.4 percent compared to the country’s population and 141.9 percent in relation to number of [actual] Internet users,” the socialbakers.com website noted. “Total number of Facebook users in Lebanon ... grew by more than 129,880 in the last six months.”

Aspiring Lebanese filmmakers attended exclusive filmmaking workshop hosted by Alaa Karkouti and supported by Lebanese filmmaker Nadeem Mashlawee organised by TROPFEST Arabia in Beirut. The workshops are part of a regional tour across the Middle East and aim to give participants key hints and tips on making a successful short film for inclusion in the second annual TROPFEST Arabia, which will take place in October this year. TROPFEST Arabia Ambassador, Lebanese director Amin Dora and TROPFEST Arabia 2011 finalist, Nadim Laham shared insights on how TROPFEST Arabia impacted their lives and talked to participants about how to create a successful TROPFEST Arabia short film.

Lebanon is aiming to boost its media and satellite broadcasting industries, the Telecoms Minister said at the Arab Satellite Communications Organization conference. Nicolas Sehnaoui said his ministry has been working toward “transforming Lebanon into an open media hub, where satellite television stations and production studios are set up (without difficulty) and are connected through brand new telecommunications networks.”

The Lebanese Telecoms Ministry has offered a piece of real estate to be used to establish a 'Media and Smart City'. "Minister Sehnaoui told me that the real estate is located in a strategic area which will allow us to build a media city," said information minister Walid Daouk. "We will start work in this area and continue to attract Lebanese media professionals," he added.
