MBC has acquired exclusive rights to NBC's 'The Voice'. Sony Pictures Television Arabia will co-produce the local version of the reality singing show with MBC. "We are pleased to announce this multi-year agreement, in our capacity as the exclusive broadcaster of this international format that has gained much popularity and viewership across the world. We now offer the three strongest talent show formats in the region, across multi-platforms, and look forward to continuously bring the best of entertainment to our loyal viewers, browsers and followers," said Ali Jaber, group TV director, MBC.

London based Twickenham Films and its sister company Oasis Films have announced plans to establish a firm presence in Bahrain, with the formation of an associated company and a local office in the Kingdom.

According to the 'Arab Media Outlook', a study published yesterday by the Dubai Press Club and Deloitte, the Arab advertising market is to grow to a value of US$6 billion (Dh22.03bn) by 2015, bringing hope to a media industry hit hard by the disruptions of the Arab Spring and the global financial downturn. Greater use of the internet and wider economic growth have been cited as driving a rebound in the regional media market, after advertising spending fell by more than 10 per cent in 2009 and last year.


Egyptian businessman Moustapha Sarhank plans to invest up to $40 million in regional media companies. Moustapha Sarhank, who made his fortune in the technology and defence sectors, said he had already submitted a bid for an Egyptian newspaper, and planned other acquisitions outside of Egypt. "I'll be looking at companies that have a footprint in the media sphere," said Sarhank. Investments in both print and online media are being considered.

The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) has recently hosted a training workshop on software piracy and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection for its staff, conducted by Adobe Systems Inc. in coordination with the Arabian Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAA). The training workshop, held at Adobe’s office in Dubai, was part of the continuing collaboration between the MoE, Adobe and AAA in generating greater awareness about IPR protection and to highlight the negative impact of software piracy on the social and economic development of the UAE.

Canon, world-leader in imaging solutions, today announced the appointment of Rokus van Iperen as the new President & CEO of Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
