According to the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), citing comScore data, newspapers' website traffic have improved in the first quarter of 2012, achieving a 4.4% increase in unique visitors, and 10% in average daily visitors among adults.

According to a new survey commissioned by the Newspaper Association of America, consumers who read digital newspaper content respond to digital advertising well. The survey revealed that newspapers have a wide digital reach, with 60% of respondents saying they looked at an online version from a laptop or desktop in the last week, while 26% said they looked at an online version using a smartphone, and 12% looked at an online version using a tablet.

According to the latest figures from the Newspaper Association of America, newspaper revenues in the U.S. sank 6.7% to $6.83 billion in the fourth quarter of 2011. The figures revealed that print ad revenues in the fourth quarter decreased by 8.3% from $6.45 billion to $5.93 billion. Meanwhile, online revenues increased by 3.1% from $878.4 million to $905.6 million.

According to a new report from the Newspaper Association of America, traffic to newspaper websites rose nearly 6% during the fourth quarter of 2011. Newspaper sites had more than 111 million monthly unique visitors, an yearly increase of about 6 million. According to the Newspaper Association of America's analysis of comScore data, a total of 63% of all U.S. adult Internet users visited newspaper sites during the quarter.

As third quarter results are made public, it is apparent that newspapers, magazines and radio outlets in the US have not been able to recover from the economic downturn. According to the Newspaper Association of America, newspaper ad revenues dropped 8.9%, from $6.1 billion in 2010 to $5.56 billion in 2011. According to the Publishers Information Bureau, the magazine industry has also seen a decline in ad revenues, as total magazine ad pages fell 5.6% when compared with third quarter results in 2010.
