MBC aims to localize TV broadcasting

MBC is in the process of creating localized content for North Africa, a board member of the Dubai-based media group has said. "MBC is right now talking about having split transmissions to different locations around the region after the new landscape," said Abdulrahman Al Rashed, the general manager of MBC news channel Al Arabiya. Al Rashed went on to explain that localized broadcasting will expand throughout the region. "MBC will have MBC North Africa, MBC Iraq and MBC Egypt as well. They are right now still in the planning stage, but the chairman has committed to a big investment," he added.

Asda'a Burson-Marsteller says it is aiming for acquisitions in North Africa and Iraq. "We have initiated discussions in North Africa as well as in Iraq in the last couple of months," said Sunil John, chief executive of Asda'a. "We think there is a huge growth opportunity here. And we think that this is the right time to be able to look at these markets." The Dubai-based public relations company owned by the WPP Group currently has has eleven offices and eight affiliate offices in the MENA region and Pakistan. Asda'a Burson-Marsteller's client list includes Emaar, Etisalat and Emirates NBD.


Arabsat launches DTH satellite bouquet from Morroco

Arabsat has announced the launched of a DTH satellite bouquet of channels from Morrocco on BADR-4. The new package, which comprises eight TV channels and six radio stations, will be available in the Middle-East, North Africa and most of Europe.
