Middle Eastern broadcasters Rotana, Dubai Media Incorporated and Al Rayyan have signed content distribution deals with Sony Pictures Television (SPT) in order to air SPT feature films. The agreement is a first between SPT and Al Rayyan and a first between SPT and Rotana. Meanwhile, the deal with national broadcaster Dubai Media Incorporated updates a previous contract for movies to be shown on its Dubai One channel.

Global media group News Corp. has increased its stake in Rotana Group by acquiring newly-issued shares in the company. The acquisition was announced after a Rotana board meeting, chaired by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, chairman of Rotana Holding. News Corp will pay $35 million for the shares, which will take its stake in Rotana to 18.97%. News Corp had previously owned 14.53%.


Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has announced the launch of a 24-hour international Arabic news channel, which will air on December 12 next year. "Alarab" is dedicated to Arabic-speaking viewers around the world and will broadcast a range of news programs and features focusing on politics and business.

Continually making efforts to improve upon the services it offers, Du has expanded the Arabic library available through its Video On Demand service, a popular feature among Du TV's customers, by joining hands with entertainment company Rotana.

A landmark joint venture between the Rotana Audio Visual Group, a member of Rotana Holdings, and Sony Gulf, the leading consumer electronics brand, has provided Arabic audiences with the first 3D experience featuring a music video clip on Najwa Karam in her song 'Ma Fi Nom'.

Middle East and Rotana has announced a new partnership which will enable Yahoo! to use and stream Rotana’s wide range of multimedia content through its new Arabic speaking video network channel. This strategic alliance will enable Yahoo! to roll out a number of added-value services for Rotana and end users such as mobile-friendly content, advertising content management, and an enhanced IPTV offering, amongst others.
