Samsung has managed to outsell both Apple and Nokia in the first three months of 2012. The manufacturer claims to have surpassed both smartphone makers by more than 7 million units and now claims to be in control of almost a third of the market. Samsung managed to ship over 42.2 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2012, claiming about 29% of the total market. During the same period, Apple only sold 35.1 million units, while Nokia sold 11.9 million.

According to a recent report by Futuresource Consulting 'The Tablet Technology and Markets', the global tablet market is expected to sell 234 million units in 2016, up from 64 million units in 2011, and is estimated to witness a 200% increase for consumer use across the United States and Western Europe during the next two years. Mobile application downloads have also risen in 2011, with tablets accounting for 10% of total downloads.

Samsung Electronics and OpenX are partnering up to create a new private advertising exchange specifically for global mobile inventory. The new exchange called the 'Samsung AdHub Market' will allow advertisers to purchase mobile inventory from mobile developers and Samsung Electronics within a closed marketplace environment, allowing easy targeting of desired audiences.

Samsung's Galaxy S series has been doing exceptionally well in the market and is one of the most successful mobile device series to be manufactured by Samsung. "We are incredibly proud of this record-breaking sales milestone and have exceeded the annual target announced early this year, which is testament to the enduring appeal of Samsung phones with consumers around the world," said Shin Jong-kyun, president and head of Samsung's mobile communications business. Samsung is the second-largest maker of smartphones worldwide.
