Apple has released its second quarter financial numbers revealing a huge year-over-year increase of iPhone sales, iPad and Mac sales. iPhone sales grew 88% compared to the same period last year, while iPad sales increased 188% and Mac sales by 7%. However, iPod sales plunged by 15% over last year’s quarter. According to Apple, the iPad holds a dominating 70% of the MP3 market share.

Adobe unveils CS6 and Creative Cloud subscription service

Adobe has officially launched CS6 along with the next versions of virtually all the applications in its Creative Suite. Adobe will also be launching its Creative Cloud online offerings, which will be subscription-based, and will include Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and AfterEffects. The suite will also include Adobe’s new HTML5 design and development. Photoshop, the most popular application in the suite, will also be available through a stand-alone subscription.

500 million mobile users and 901 million monthly active users on Facebook

Facebook has recently filed a fourth amendment to its IPO registration statement that confirms that it now has 500 million mobile users and 901 million monthly active users. The statement (S-1) also notes that Facebook made $1.058 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2012, up 44.7% from Q1 2012 but down 6.5% from Q4 2011, $872 million of which came from advertising.

Google TV to launch internationally in 2012

Google has announced its plans to make Google TV an international service in 2012. “We’re looking to roll out internationally through the course of 2012,” a Google spokesperson has said.  The spokesperson offered no addidtinal detail on the launch date, and did not specify why the introduction to the international market has taken so long. “We don’t break out the reasons why, but we do want to make sure that users everywhere get the full experience, so we want to make sure we work towards that,” he said.


Facebook inserts ads into news feed

Facebook has started featuring ads within the home page’s main news feed. The ads are now marked as 'featured'. The social networking site is trying to distinguish these ads from sidebar ads that are marked as 'sponsored'. The new format has faced much criticism, as the new ads may confuse facebook users by leading them to believe that the ads are stories about their friends.

News reinvents its news site, ABC will be bringing its premium content, including several new ‘web-first’ digital series featuring ABC News’s anchors, to Yahoo’s 100 million users.
