Viewers use social media to support favorite T.V. shows

According to a new study by TVGuide.com, social media activity for TV shows is primarily used by viewers to keep preferred shows on the air. 76% of people said that the primary reason for their social media activity is to "keep my favorites on the air." This data is up from 66% in 2011. The study, which was conducted in partnership with Social TV Summit, reviewed posts, status updates, check-ins and comments on social networks, fansites, official network sites, and entertainment sites.

Nielsen has announced that it will introduce a measurement system that standardizes ratings for television and online ads. The new system, given the name “cross-platform campaign ratings,” will combine Nielsen’s existing television ratings, which measure the reach and frequency of ads on TV, with Nielsen’s new online campaign ratings, which apply the same measurements to the Web. Until now, the two types of ratings have existed on their own.
