Recent price increases have encouraged Qataris to use social networking sites and tweets to voice their complaints and wage campaigns, including a call to boycott some outlets. The sudden trend was kicked off by Qatar Telecom (Qtel) customers, who launched the much-talked-about drive ‘Qtel Fail’ criticising the company of charging more and providing inefficient services.

Plans to upgrade the Qatari media to world standards will start with more television channels and radio stations focusing on local issues, a senior official of the Qatar Media Corporation has said. Mubarak Jaham Al Kuwari, Executive President of QMC, said in an interview with Al Sharq that the project was part of a new media strategy.
