Social media plays vital role in movie promotion, threatening film advertising on TV

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. Chief Executive Jon Feltheimer has said that movie studios will likely buy fewer TV ads in the future, and look more to online promotion. During the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles, Feltheimer said that "companies that are conglomerates, with large broadcast networks or a bouquet of cable channels are going to have to adapt. And it will be disruptive." 


Tumblr to begin selling ad space

Tumblr founder and CEO David Karp has announced that the site will start offering the 'Radar' post that appears on a Tumblr user's dashboard as an ad unit. The 'Radar' section is an officially curated selection of images used to highlight popular posts from across the Tumblr network. The new 'Radar' ad unit represents the first pay-to-advertise option on the platform.


Pinterest is third most-visited social-networking site

According to a report by digital marketing firm Experian, Pinterest is now the third most-visited social-networking site in the United States. Pinterest, which lets its users 'pin' photos and info from the Internet onto virtual boards, ranks behind Facebook and Twitter in terms of total visitors. According to Experian, Pinterest had 104 million total visits from people in the United States last month, which puts the site ahead of heavyweights like LinkedIn, Google+, MySpace and Tumblr.

CEO David Karp has revealed that Tumblr is visited by over 120 million unique users each month, helping it tally over 15 billion monthly pageviews. Karp revealed the statistic at the Digital Life Design (DLD) conference in Munich. Nearly 42 million microblogs are re-blogged via RSS, Twitter, and Facebook an average of nine times, dramatically expanding Tumblr's footprint across the Web.


US internet users spend quarter of time on social networking sites

Internet users in the US spend more than twice as much time on social networks, including blogs, as they do on online games, the next top web destination according to a Nielsen report. The most popular social network as measured by Nielsen online meters is Facebook, followed by Blogger, Tumblr, Twitter and LinkedIn.
